NEW LOUDSPEAKER APPROACHES FOR HAM RADIO

This month Dr. Bruce Edgar, KJ6DJL, will discuss the use of phenolic and horn loudspeakers for the ham shack. There will be demonstrations with simulated voice signals embedded in noise.

edgar_titanDr. Edgar received his B.S. and M.S. EE degrees from Okla. State Univ. in 1964 and 1965, respectively and his PhD EE degree from Stanford in 1972, specializing in electromagnetic theory. He did a Post Doc in Atmospheric Physics at the Univ. Of Florida in 1972-73, and joined the Space Science Lab at The Aerospace Corp. in El Segundo in 1973, where he was Co- Investigator for several VLF RF experiments on Air Force satellites. Later he transferred to the Space Test Program, as Lead Planner for DoD scientific satellites. In 1995, Dr. Edgar started Edgarhorn, a hobby turned business, which was devoted to the design and manufacture of high end horn audio systems. In 2009 he retired from his speaker business, passed his Tech and General Amateur exams, and now enjoys working the HF bands and chasing DX. Dr. Edgar has published 50 papers in antenna theory, VLF wave propagation, wave-particle interactions, lightning, and loudspeakers. From 1981 to 1995, he was contributing editor for Speaker Builder magazine.
