After struggling for years to make more than five satellite contacts on Field Day, I was finally rewarded this year with the highest number of satellite contacts I've ever made. What was different this year that was lacking in years past?
PREPARATION!
I won't go into how you set up and run an Amateur Satellite station “from scratch”, as that's been written about many times before, and there's a wealth of Web resources available on how to do it. Trust me, follow the guidelines on the AMSAT website and elsewhere about what you need to get started, and you'll save yourself a LOT of grief!
Don't fool yourself into thinking that you know better, and that your particular “shortcuts” to get on the birds will work. Many people, myself included, have figured that with our Vast Knowledge And Extensive Experience In All Things Radio, we could go our own way to get “On The Birds On The Cheap”.
